Steven van Breemen. What’s in a name? Steven’s books and countless articles can be used by the pigeon fanciers for all kinds of things in the sport. Success in the pigeon sport is all about gathering knowledge. Steven is of the opinion that the Internet is the best way to publish information on racing pigeons. This thought is the foundation of the online magazine for pigeon fanciers on the Internet: “Winning.”
Steven has a long record of services for the pigeon sport. He is founder of the long-distance club “Gooi & Eemland” in Holland and during the first years of its existence he was the secretary. After that he held many posts on club, regional and even national board level.
Steven was born in ’51 and has raced pigeons for 47 years, still with lots of enthusiasm and enjoyment. The number of firsts he has won in big competition is countless. Over the years he has specialized on the day races and he won 10 first Nationals. He says he doesn’t put much value on championships, but is very proud to have won the 1st Championship of the N.A.B.v.P(Dutch Semi National Championship) 3 times in 4 years with 20.000 fanciers on his tail. No Dutch fancier has achieved this before him.
In addition, Steven has made important contributions to the welfare of racing pigeons. He had an important hand in the construction of the well known Hilversum pigeon transporter, of which information has been made available worldwide.
He has written two books. The first one, “The Art of Breeding” was written with his Hungarian friend genetics professor, the late Alfons Anker. Stimulated by Professor Anker’s ideas, Steven and his wife Marijke started the Alfons Anker Foundation that has the task to promote the sport of racing pigeons worldwide. Steven’s second book, “Hints for Mating, Breeding and Selecting” was published on Winning Magazine. All his articles are there to be found also.
